Injury Updates
Kirk Ferentz had his weekly press conference on Tuesday and among other things spoke about injury status of some important Hawkeyes. We Twitterd yesterday after the press conference that Mike Sabers, Tony Moeaki, Trey Stross, and Dan Doering were doubtful for Saturday according to Coach Ferentz, but let’s now take a closer look at the injury front and how it may affect the Hawkeyes on Saturday when they face Florida International. Tony Moeaki – Sr. – TE Moeaki suffered a foot injury early in fall camp and has been working his way back. He was expected to practice in full pads on Tuesday, but the coaches were going to be careful with him in drills and it is still doubtful that Tony will see any action on Saturday. The smart money would be on him continuing to work his way back to full speed for the Iowa State game. Dan Doering – Jr. – OL Doering had an appointment with a doctor on Tuesday to take a look at his injured hand. Depending on the outcome of that meeting, Doering may be ready to go Saturday, but again Coach Ferentz sounded doubtful he would play. Trey Stross – Jr. – WR Stross continues to be hampered by a hamstring issue and his status is in limbo for Saturday. It is expected that Stross too will sit out the Florida International game with his sights set on a return against Iowa State. Michael Sabers – Sr. – TE Sabers is still nursing an ankle injury and according to Coach Ferentz is still a ways away. He won’t see action on Saturday and any timeframe for his return is still up in the air. Jordan Bernstein (Soph. – CB) and Drew Gardner (Sr. – DB) both worked out on Sunday after missing the Maine game and are expected to be ready to go for Saturday’s game. Jeff Tarpinian (Soph. – LB) was also expected to practice on Tuesday and should be ready to play on Saturday. |
